Documents captured from Cobra in 1990 revealed the existence of a contract between Cobra Commander and a syndicate of high-tech ninjas called Night-Creepers. They have maintained this long-standing contract with Cobra to handle high-risk field intelligence operations and covert infiltration. They do not follow the traditional methods of their ancestors, choosing modern weapons over the crude sword and staff to accomplish their tasks. By using the most advanced stealth and anti-detection technology available, these martial arts masters infiltrate top secret research facilities for the Cobra organization. They are extremely crafty, well motivated, and have an abnormally high pain tolerances, which makes them hard to predict, hard to stop, and hard to knock down and keep down. Combining both swift and ruthless punishment, they take what they want and leave only destruction in their midst. All investigations into the structure and origin of the Night-Creepers have run into dead ends, or resulted in the mysterious disappearance of the investigators.
In 1993 and 1994, two different types of Night-Creepers were contracted to the Cobra organization. While both groups wore uniforms completely different from the original 1990 Night-Creepers, both groups maintained an affinity for a marriage between cutting edge technology and age-old martial arts. Under an experimental operation to mimic the G.I. Joe Steel Brigade shortly before Cobra disbanded, Cobra's second wave of specially contracted and recruited Night Creepers utilized the Crimson Guard Immortal helmet and Iron Grenadier T.A.R.G.A.T. uniform as part of their equipment. Despite the standardized uniforms, these Night Creepers were given individual code names.
As of 1998, it is believed that a portion of the clan resides in the arctic region and have adapted their methods to the cold environment. These Night-Creepers were deployed with Firefly and Snow Serpents. The Night-Creepers were utilized to steal classified documents from top secret, arctic research facilities.
Cobra deployed Night-Creepers with the Strike Team - Urban Division to the United States beginning in 2004 along with the
Alley Viper and
Nullifier troopers. This group is led by the Cobra operatives Firefly, Scrap Iron, and Storm Shadow. Based on uniform colorings, Firefly is most closely associated with the Night-Creeper troops, most likely because of his prior association to the Night-Creepers within the Cobra Polar Force.
