Beginning in 1993, Cobra dispatched specially recruited Aero-Vipers, Alley Vipers, B.A.T.s, Crimson Guards, Eels, Night Creepers, and Officers that utilized the Crimson Guard Immortal helmet and Iron Grenadier T.A.R.G.A.T. uniform as part of their equipment. These troopers were given individual code names despite their standardized uniforms.
Cobra Commander would characterize these individuals as either a leader, fighter, or loner. Leaders were always taking control of any situation. Fighters were the backbone of their group. Loners valued winning their fights over all else.
These soldiers were experts with with any combination of 515D sub-machine guns, "Adder" knives, armor-piercing bullet rifles, C-11 rocket launchers, EX-2 detonator crossbows, L68-44 ripple-fire guns, M-8 missile launchers, NA-55 assault rifles, nunchakus, pineapple grenades, throwing stars, and/or X6 laser rifles. They were also martial arts experts of Akido, Jujitsu, Karate, Kung-Fu, Ninjutsu, and/or Tai Kwon Do. Each soldier also specialized in driving the Detonator armored assault vehicle, Earthquake construction vehicle, Ice Sabre Arctic assault carrier, Ice Snake Arctic attack vehicle, Liquidator advanced tactical fighter, Parasite armored personnel carrier, Rat hovercraft, or Septic Tank sludge tank.
It is presumed that this program encouraging individualism ultimately failed for Cobra as it was abandoned when the organization collapsed in 1994.
