Cobra Nullifier troops have a passive, infrared targeting and sighting system built into their helmets. This allows them to fire extremely accurate missiles at aircraft with absolute impunity. These are dedicated and motivated troopers. To maintain a maximum level of effectiveness, Nullifier troops spend long hours every day practicing simulated missile engagements using a program that plugs into their helmets. This is similar to playing a portable video game for ten hours straight. The congested and densely packed cities are perfect places for Nullifier troops to conduct their air attacks in anonymity, as they strike quickly then disappear into myriad dark alleyways and underground hideaways.
Cobra deployed Nullifiers with the Strike Team - Urban Division to the United States beginning in 2004 along with Alley Viper and Night Creeper troopers. This team is led by the Cobra operatives Firefly, Scrap Iron, and Storm Shadow. Based on uniform colorings, Scrap Iron is most closely associated with the Alley Viper and Nullifier troops.
Nullifiers were originally deployed in 1992 as Cobra Flak-Vipers. In 1988, Destro's Iron Grenadiers contained a trooper code named Nullifier. It is unclear why the latest deployment of Flak-Vipers have been given an Iron Grenadier trooper's code name.
