The Motor-Viper Corps attracts the type of individual who, without the benefit of an education and ambition, might have joined the Dreadnoks. The Cobra Recon and Perimeter Defense Forces are disciplined, efficient, and highly motivated in the manner of all elite groups. This is fairly surprising, seeing that the Force seems to be comprised of the type that enjoys driving high speeds and finds amusement in danger. Motor-Vipers don't get paid any better than the Ground-Vipers or Sea-Vipers, nor do they receive any special privileges or benefits.
Motor-Vipers stayed active as Cobra vehicle operators from 1986 to 1992. In 1988, during Operation Deep Six, a Lampreys, Motor-Viper, and Strato-Viper managed to capture the G.I. Joe Admiral Keel-Haul and hold him prisoner on an uncharted island in the Gulf of Alaska for interrogation. In 1991 through 1992, Motor-Vipers and Strato-Vipers deployed with F.A.N.G.s in Cobra Patrol Units, a sub-division of the Cobra Recon and Perimeter Defense Forces. Cobra Patrol Units were
also notably deployed in the Terror on the Tundra mission by Serpentor to patrol for G.I. Joe scouts around his Arctic missile launch sites.
In 1991, an experimental, reverse-engineered version of the Motor-Viper uniform was given to the G.I. Joe Sky Patrol operative Airwave. In 1997, the remains of Cobra's hierarchy sold plans for the Motor-Viper uniform to a terrorist organization known as Pyro's Band of Thugs. The uniform was assigned to
the operative Scorch with an altered color scheme. With the new deployments of C.L.A.W.S., Coils, Crimson Guard Immortals, Neo-Viper, and Vipers, it would be highly unlikely that Cobra will be deploying a Motor-Viper with the original 1986 through 1992 uniform.
