Annihilators are one division of Destro's elite airborne assault troops and also function as his personal bodyguards. They can "take-off" by sea, air, and land with mini-turbine heli-packs strapped to their backs and descend upon their target like armored locusts. Annihilators are recruited from the ranks of the Iron Grenadiers. As part of their indoctrination into the Annihilator Corps, they must serve an apprenticeship as hard-sell telephone solicitors, procuring sales for Destro's M.A.R.S.* armaments corporation. Not only does this help to increase Destro's coffers, but it also reinforces their tenacity and ruthlessness.
Within the Iron Grenadiers airborne assault corps, Annihilators serve as mobile fast attack troops. Iron Anvils require airborne transport to their "impact zones" and fulfill an infantry role until they are extracted. T.A.R.G.A.T.s are strictly reserved for purely innaccessible location airborne/infantry deployments due to their high maintenance costs. Annihilators, however, can "take-off" in any location with sub-hurricane/tornado weather conditions, fly to the target, engage enemy forces, and lift-off again for a second target or extraction. Despite the short range of their heli-packs, the Annihilators are the most flexible of Destro's mercenaries.
In 1993, a Cobra-contracted Annihilator was deployed to Brazil with experimental Sonic Fighter weaponry as a Destruction Commander. This Annihilator found pleasure in destruction, perhaps because his face was destroyed in a terrible accident. The fact was that the Destruction Commander could only rest assured while everything was in ruins. One of the greatest prides of Cobra is to destroy of an entire city by a single element - which the Destruction Commander clearly accomplished once. He blasted a dam, submerged a city, and worse, hindered the access by land for rescue and clean-up crews. Afterwards, he laughed behind his irremovable mask, satisfied with his own ability of destruction.
Since Cobra's 1994 collapse, Annihilators have not yet been redeployed with Cobra or the Iron Grenadiers.
