Iron
Grenadiers are Destro's elite ground forces, the
backbone of his personal army of the same name, and an obnoxious salesman with
guns. Lured from the world's
finest military institutions by the promise of wealth and power, Destro
delivers both to those skilled enough and greedy enough to make the cut.
The Iron Grenadiers are handpicked from Destro's personal bodyguards for their blind loyalty,
endurance, tenacity, and pure meanness. They are the key to the
expansion of the armament business that Destro governs and the spearhead of
his incursions into new territory. They will execute any plan their leader gives them, despite the risks.
Intensely trained in both economics and warfare, they are equally prepared to
sell M.A.R.S.* armaments and armor to even the most reticent customer, or use
those same arms to utterly conquer them. This group is capable of
infiltrating anywhere virtually undetected. The Iron Grenadiers, acting
as agents, provocateurs, saboteurs, or outright terrorists, spread panic and
chaos, undermine authority, encourage disagreements, and impel an unsuspecting
country towards chaos and turmoil, thereby creating new markets for Destro's
weapons where none existed before. They are the de facto standard of
elite trooper, more efficient and feared than
Crimson Guard troops.
Their pay is a percentage of gross sales, and they are very well paid. In fact, Iron Grenadiers receive a
commission on the armaments that are sold because of their efforts. The
Iron Grenadier also receives special incentive points for starting riots, encouraging
armed revolts, and igniting brush wars.
There were no Ferrets deployed to Brazil for the D.E.M.O.N. tanks in 1991, so
Brazilian-deployed Iron Grenadier regulars known as "Terrorks" were the designated D.E.M.O.N.
vehicle operators in that area. Terrorks wore gas masks with
anti-radiation filters and wrist-mounted computerized controls to operate D.E.M.O.N.s remotely.
The Iron Grenadier uniform was unchanged until 2003.
