Streaking through the atmosphere at speeds reaching Mach 20, the 1988 state-of-the-art Stellar Stiletto space fighter with its Star-Viper pilots, laser guns, and deep space missiles orginally was designed to be a Cobra Air Force counter-threat to the G.I. Joe Defiant Space Complex. In 1991, the Iron Grenadiers began various Brazilian-based missions using a combination of Cobra and Iron Grenadier equipment. Normally reserved for Cobra, the Stellar Stiletto was designated the F.E.R.A. (translates as "Injure"), or Space Attack and Reconnaissance Fighter, and piloted by contracted Cobra Astro-Vipers. In Brazil, the primary function of the F.E.R.A. was to destroy special Battle Force 2000 orbital space stations.
By 1993, M.A.R.S.* would no longer manufacture the F.E.R.A. and both Cobra and the Iron Grenadiers ceased deployments of the model. However, in 1993, G.I. Joe was able to retrofit and re-engineer a number of intact Stellar Stilettos and create the Starfighter spacecraft, which only saw a short, one-year deployment before G.I. Joe's decommision. Since that time, the F.E.R.A. has no been utilized by either Cobra, G.I. Joe, or the Iron Grenadiers. An altered design of the Stellar Stilleto/F.E.R.A. was seen at one time in India, but was not associated with Cobra, G.I. Joe, or the Iron Grenadiers.
