Updraft was apart of the final design of the Retaliator, an amalgamation of a bomber and rescue support helicopter. Designed to be maneuverable and survive combat, even while lifting heavy loads, the Retaliator is unique in the G.I. Joe arsenal. When a situation calls for equipment to be salvaged and able soldiers to be lifted out, Updraft brings the Retaliator in with a bombing run and covering fire to suppress the enemy. Then the rear tail/stabilizer section of the Retaliator swings down, transforming into a vertical arm and claw assembly. This arm and claw is able to lift the weight equivalent of a Vamp Mark II Jeep and three to four
soldiers despite its stubby rotor blades. While it is never a pretty situation when the Retaliator has to carry any equipment, it does the job well enough that the G.I.
Joe team maintained the Retaliator until the team was decommissioned in
1994. It is currently unknown whether the Retaliator and Updraft
have resumed service with G.I. Joe. |
