Long Range seems to more embody what the soldier figures are known for. He's got an elaborate spring-loaded "play feature" weapon, and a few complimentary pieces, but not a whole lot of really interesting gear here. Pretty much just a straight repaint for a figure, and not much other stuff to offer or make him worth an additional purchase.

The mortar/rocket launcher is the focal point of the weapons, and while it's very nicely detailed and has a lot of little hinges, flip down handles and other assorted items, it really isn't all that exciting. It seems to have a lot of movable joints that don't make a lot of sense.

The shoulder-mounted rocket launcher can be modified by moving a part and attaching the "bipod". This turns it into a ground-based mortar launcher which fires the same rocket the shoulder-mounted one does. The bipod is kind of curious because it doesn't seem like it's able to stand on it's own, even though the instruction books shows that you can hook the "goggles" on it to use it as a surveying station. Not sure what that's all about.

I'm really not a fan of missile launchers, mortar launchers, and other spring-loaded gadgetry...my love is really with detailed, realistic weapons. Unfortunately, Long Range is somewhat limited in this regard, though he does come with a very cool pearl-handled revolver, which his filecard mentions is a "family heirloom".

The rest of his accessories are pretty much just compliments of what you see already, though I really do love his belt and holster, which fit his pistol snugly and give you a spot to put his canteen. The boonie hat is pretty cool, and the scarf is an interesting idea, too, and they add some nice touches to the figure to make him seem different from the original.

However, when it all comes right down to it, I'm not sure I can fully endorse this figure as a worthy purchase...he just doesn't have enough additional features to warrant a $10.00 purchase, especially when the Commando version is just a heck of a lot cooler.
