     Thor-John was assigned his codename through unpleasant circumstances.  While he is not of Norse decent, Thor-John is fascinated with of thunder and rain and has always been interested in the mythology of Thor.  Thor by itself would have been a plenty acceptable code name.  Unfortunately for Thor-John, when he was approached for a position with X-Troop by Phoenix, she had to locate him through his emergency cell phone's unanswered signal.  His cell phone was with him at the time however as Thor-John in a public toilet with a prostitute.  If X-Troop hadn't been in dire need of a mechanized troop specialist, he would've lost the offer immediately.  Instead, Phoenix privately settled with Thor-John by assigning an embarrassing - if puzzling to his team members - code name and a reduced rank in the chain of command.
