BATs are the perfect Cobra Troopers and are expendable cannon-fodder. They never question orders, complain about the chow, shirk duty, or surrender. They require no leave-time, sick-pay, or benefits of any kind. Their components are manufactured cheaply in non-U.S. factories and assembled in secret plants by Vipers on punishment duty. Final assembly is expected to be completed by the B.A.T. troops themselves, who are handed a screwdriver and soldering gun as soon as their arm is attached. The newest advance in Cobra battle android technology features specialized interchangeable arms with built-in weapons modules. A single B.A.T. in the field is capable of changing arm modules by itself, making this latest model the most versatile and dangerous version yet. The new improved B.A.T. trooper contains a chip pirated from a popular console video game, which allows for better target locking and accuracy. Many of the bugs that plagued earlier B.A.T. models have been corrected in this B.A.T. model, most notably a much-improved IFF transponder system for identifying Cobra forces that has cut down the frequency of "friendly fire" accidents to an acceptable percentage. Weight considerations limited the amount of armor these robots could carry on the motor and gears section, so when hit from behind they tend to burst into flames. The technical improvements also means higher power requirements and higher cooling capabilities resulting in the new models leaving behind tell-tale little puddles of green anti-freeze.
Cobra Infantrymen don't like to be on the same battlefield with BATs. The Battle Android Trooper is a "fire and forget" weapon, in that once it is turned on and pointed at the enemy, it keeps seeking out targets until the battery dies or it runs out of ammunition. When a Cobra unit is losing a battle they will dispense BATs into the midst of the firefight in order to evacuate the area easily.
