The Adder is Cobra's cheap and easily repaired/replaced anti-tank missile launcher. The basic vehicle is a six-wheeled automotive chassis with no armoring for the driver and fire control station with a simple hydraulic lift component for the missiles.
With the Adder's respectable range, it is not a frontline artillery piece. Typically deployed from a secured or undetected position, Adders will be used to launch their payload at non-mobile targets or large, slow moving convoys. After the ammunition of the Adder is depleted, the driver will return to the main convoy or deployment vehicle for a reload of munitions or transport back to Cobra's nearest base of operations for storage.
Due to the lack of armor and only minor sophisticated computer equipment with simplicity of use, Adders are not primary military targets. Anti-missile defenses are usually sufficient counters to the limited number of missiles an Adder can deploy on its own. However, if given an attack of opportunity, Adders are easily incapacitated by ground personnel as the Adder is rarely deployed with any kind of defensive contingent of troops or other hardware.
In 1991, Adders were notably deployed in the Terror on the Tundra mission with a payload of odorless, toxic pollutants in a plan to contaminate the world's ozone layer. H.I.S.S. tanks, W.O.L.F. tanks, and Cobra Patrol Units patrolled these Arctic missile launch sites.
